Sustainable Corporate Events: Eco-Friendly Planning Tips

As companies are becoming more socially and environmentally conscious, they are also looking for ways to decrease their ecological footprint in other ways, starting with putting on corporate events in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Choose a Green Venue

The first step in planning a sustainable event is choosing a venue. Look for venues that are certified as 'green' or that promote environmentally friendly initiatives, such as energy-efficient lighting, composting programs, recycling containers, water conserving fixtures, etc. Better still, if the venue can be reached through public transportation and is centrally located, then less carbon is being emitted through transportation. Also consider virtual or hybrid events where there is no carbon footprint of travel.

Minimize Waste with Smart Catering Choices

Food waste and the environmental impact from food waste are also a big part of an event's impact on the environment. To mitigate this, when selecting a caterer, research and select caterers that utilize local or organic foods or seasonal foods. It is worthwhile to choose vegetarian or plant-based options instead of meat because meat has a larger carbon footprint; therefore, limiting meat-based options would be beneficial. In addition, try to avoid single-use plastics and compostables and use reusable dishware.

Incorporate Sustainable Materials and Digital Alternatives

When folks are planning for event materials, the basic rule is: less is more! Avoid printed programs, it is better to provide a digital agenda or a mobile app to participants so they can actively engage without a paper agenda. Use sustainable signage from recycled or biodegradable materials, and try and encourage your guests to bring their reusable items, such as water bottles, tote bags, etc. Instead of handouts and swag bag pieces of plastic that go in the landfill, they will promote practical, sustainable items in swag bags like bamboo utensils, seed packets, or reusable straws.

Sustainable corporate events aren’t simply a moment in time; they’re a matter of responsibility. Equipped with thoughtfulness, businesses can offset the environmental impact of their events, and plan an experience that attendees will remember. By simply choosing sustainable venues and making small efforts to reduce food waste, and utilizing reusable/digital materials, businesses can support other businesses and show that sustainability is part of their core event principles.
